As patron of the International Quilt Show 2016, Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan hosted the prestigious Cindy Needham Trunk Show and also welcomed the Heirloom Feathers Workshop to Abu Dhabi in 2015.

Being a keen quilter myself, I am really excited that the winning quilts are to be showcased in the capital. Promoting the arts in Abu Dhabi is high on my list of priorities and I hope that this will be the first of many such events.

The Art of Quilting

The winning quilts from the Dubai International Quilt Show 2016 will be exhibited in Abu Dhabi, the national hub for art and culture in the United Arab Emirates. Sheikha Shamma graciously supports the art of quilting and hopes to encourage the community of Abu Dhabi to participate in workshops and view a selection of the magnificent handmade quilts created both locally and abroad.

Quilts are Art Competition

Sheikha Shamma created a school competition that is aimed to showcase quilting as an art form and to expose the younger generation to this time-honoured handcraft. This competition aims to encourage students to use their creativity, mathematical abilities and ingenuity as they research, create and design quilt blocks. The announcement of the winners and a display of all the blocks will be showcased at the Marina Mall on the 28th-30th of February 2016.
